Dear All
We can now reveal our second award in the space of a fortnight…our mixed salad & herb bags won overall first prize in the fruit & veg category in the Soil Association’s annual food awards!
Needless to say, we are very pleased. It is all to easy to focus on the challenges of growing our own produce (weeds, aphids, caterpillars, slugs, bolting, watering…need I go on?) and lose sight of the fact that the end product is, in most cases, very worthwhile. Anya has worked tirelessly over the summer keeping our salad growing, and is now planning a winter salad that will withstand prolonged sub-zero temeperatures over the winter if we have another winter like we have had for the past two years. We also couldn’t have done this without our volunteer wwoofers, who perhaps did not appreciate quite how much weeding was involved in organic farming before they arrived at our farm!
Our award winning salad and very tasty pies will be travelling into Wales for the next 2 weekends. We will have a stand at both the Usk Show (11th September) and Abergavenny Food Festival (18th-19th September). If you make a special trip to these excellent events (the weather can’t possibly be as bad as it was at Monmouth Show?) please stop by and say hello. If you can’t make it, we will also be at the Skenfrith Producers’ market on September 11th too.
